A Letter To My City From My Heart -- Virgil Brown

"Welcome to the parade and celebration!  First of all, I would like to congratulate Oklahoma City and the entire Thunder organization on becoming the 2097-98 RBSL Champions!!

It's been an arduous journey that has led to this moment.  Before I talk about the present, I would like to shine a little light on the past.

Since I have become the owner of the OKC Thunder, back in 2071, we have had our ups and downs.  From the departure of talented big-man, Louis Hiscock, who would go on to win championships without us and forcing the front office to move our young talent around.  This leads us to a short but sweet golden era of contending, with Juan Mills at the helm.  Unfortunately, even with our sole Finals appearance in 2078, injuries would plague that team and any aspirations they would have.  During this time, we also had the unfortunate mishap of a malfunctioning fax machine, which led to the un-signing of Juan Stith, better known as Stith-Gate, which would have catapulted the team into a top conference contender in a blink of an eye, but it was not meant to be.  Stith would not be added to an already studded roster of Mills, Carson Posey, Terrance Rider, Marion Myers, and Gage Houston.

I still kept that slip that I still do not understand as a reminder that things may not make sense, no matter how right you may feel.

After that, we had a very slow transition out of our current stars, purely out of loyalty.  The front office would constantly try to surround our fading stars with talent that might be able to bolster the roster and give them their last stands.  This would last several years, which would lead into another rebuild for the franchise.

Enter German Anderson, the beginning of the next team of hopefuls our franchise would begin to cheer for in the arena.  Once joined by Yanick Decourchelle and Daniel Bond, the GM would instantly begin surrounding them with talent to give them the best possible chance at success, not wanting a repeat of Louis Hiscock leaving for nothing.  The Thunder would bring in players like David Holden, Matthew Owens, Duncan Koon, and Ben Simmons during the developmental years.  Right when the young trio were showing drastic improvements, German Anderson leaves in free agency to the Dallas Mavericks.  Another team star leaves for no return.  The front office is devastated but instantly regroups and shakes up the roster immediately, adding Frankie Brown and Jeffrey Volz.  This would eventually lead to the team's best showing, 65-17, since the Finals appearance led by Juan Mills but fall short in a second round exit to the Kings.  After a reload to next season, by moving Brown and Simmons and acquiring Art Goodwin, Daniel Koehler, Scottie Waters, and Les Banks, the team improved by 1 win, 66-16, but falling to the Warriors in 7 games in the second round.  Seeing another window come to a close, the front office sadly moved Decourchelle and Bond for future assets.  Both would go on to win championships in the future with other teams.

This brings us to the current era, which begins with the drafting of Matthew Rosemond, a pick that left us between a rock and a hard place which could've been Qian Guo, and Mikhail Krukov, followed by the pick of Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, and Miles Bridges, the latter would go on to be traded following the season.

*Cheers erupt from the crowd*

While these budding young stars grew, we brought in a lot of talent to work around them.  Nacio Escriva, Wilfred Tello, Man Dilley, Pat Joseph, Corey Young, and more.  Management would go on to find a gem in Jack Kimes.  However, seeing history repeat itself slowly and not wanting to lose Ayton to another team where he would potentially win a championship, management called an audible and traded homegrown Bridges and Krukov and added Joshua Feeney and former MVP and champion Robert Acevedo.  And as they say, the rest is history.

This franchise truly experienced the adage 'Journey Before Destination'.  It took nearly two decades of trials and tribulations to reach the Finals again, where they would face off against a Guo-led Bulls, where Qian really epitomizes his team's mascot.  He plays as though he is a bull in a china shop and doesn't let anything stand in his way.  However, our stars shone brighter, grinding the defending champions down to seven games and pulling off a strong victory in their house, stunning many doubters and giving fans one of the biggest cathartic releases possible.

I would like to thank the team, current players and those we've lost along the way.  Many D-Leaguers joined us this year; Alexandros, Clemente, Keita, Edwin.  Along with some RBSL vets like Glenn, Dick, and Darren.  We can't forget our strong core.  Joshua, Jack, Robert, Matty, and your Playoffs MVP, Deandre!  I'd also like to acknowledge and congratulate their coach, Ulrich von Liechtenstein from Gelderland, for getting this team to gel this quickly and build that smooth cohesion throughout the season.  I think the only way you're going to beat Ulrich would be in his sleep, with a stick.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, the Oklahoma City Thunder, your 2097-98 RBSL Champions!"

Thunder and Denver rearrange a pick protection:

Denver top 5 protected for 99/100 with a conversion to a 101 unprotected becomes Denver top 1 protected 99, transfers to unprotected 100.

To complete the trade Denver sends 100 TBD to the league champion as penance.
